More Than a Game

June gives us plenty to celebrate. The golf season is in full swing, the weather is finally cooperating (most of the time), and the fairways are filled with the usual mix of birdies, bogeys, and stories that somehow get better with every retelling. But June also gives us the opportunity to recognize two important observances—Pride Month and Juneteenth—and reflect on the values that make both our communities and our league stronger.

At XII Golf, we believe the game is at its best when everyone feels welcome on the first tee. Golf has a long history, but like many sports, it continues to evolve. Today, more people from different backgrounds, experiences, and communities are finding their place in the game. That’s something worth celebrating. Pride Month reminds us that authenticity matters. Whether you’re striping drives down the middle or searching for your ball three fairways over, every golfer deserves the opportunity to show up as themselves and enjoy the game alongside friends.

Juneteenth offers another important reminder. The holiday commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and serves as a celebration of freedom, resilience, and progress. It also invites us to consider how access and opportunity have expanded over time. Golf is strongest when participation grows and barriers come down. Every new player, every new perspective, and every new friendship helps make the sport—and leagues like ours—better for everyone.

One of the things that makes XII Golf special is that on league night, titles, job descriptions, and differences tend to fade into the background. What remains is competition, laughter, and the shared understanding that golf is hard enough without taking ourselves too seriously. We come together because we love the game, but we stay because of the people. The friendships built over nine holes often last much longer than any scorecard.

As we continue through the season, let’s enjoy everything that makes June unique. Celebrate the victories, learn from the bad breaks, and appreciate the community that gathers each week. Pride Month and Juneteenth both highlight the importance of inclusion, freedom, and belonging—values that have a place on every golf course. Here’s to a great month, great company, and maybe, just maybe, finding the fairway once in a while.
